The satellite company provides internet and other communication services that support state agencies such as Moscow\u2019s main intelligence agency.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander Anosov, the general director of the satellite company Dozor-Teleport CJSC and the first deputy general director of its parent company, Amtel-Svyaz, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comnews.ru\/content\/227150\/2023-06-30\/2023-w26\/dozor-teleport-stal-zhertvoy-bukvy-z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told a Russian information technology news outlet<\/a> that the company was indeed infiltrated, and that preliminary information suggested that \u201cinfrastructure on the side of the cloud provider was compromised,\u201d according to a Google translation.<\/p>\n<p>ComNews, the publication that reported Anosov\u2019s confirmation, reported that it \u201cmay take up to to weeks to restore the network to full operation.\u201d The story did not offer additional detail to the severity or scale of the attack but said more information would be published on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>News <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/russian-satellite-hack-wagner-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">emerged late Wednesday into Thursday<\/a> that the company had been targeted by a group claiming affiliation to the PMC Wagner, the private military company run by Victor Prigozhin. Along targeting the company and leaking nearly 700 files, the hackers defaced several websites and put up Wagner-related messages and a video.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Oleg Shakirov, a cyber policy expert and consultant at the Moscow-based PIR Center think tank, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/shakirov2036\/status\/1674394027154632705?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted Thursday<\/a> that \u201cWagner\u2019s involvement is very unlikely,\u201d and that it looked \u201clike Ukrainian false flag trolling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Wagner group did not respond to a request for comment and has not posted about the alleged connection to the hack in its widely followed Telegram channel. In the days since Prigozhin led his private military on an uprising and threatened to kill the head of the Russian military, his company, which includes the notorious Internet Research Agency troll factory, has faced major setbacks. Prigozhin announced the \u201cliquidation\u201d of Patriot Media, his company that had \u201cdozens\u201d of \u201cnews\u201d sites, <a href=\"https:\/\/meduza.io\/en\/news\/2023\/06\/30\/prigozhin-reportedly-dissolving-patriot-media-group-home-of-his-troll-factory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meduza reported Friday<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The article also implied that the company was targeted because it uses a Latin-alphabet \u201cZ\u201d in its name, rather than the Cyrillic \u201c\u0417\u201d. Anosov said that the company\u2019s use of the \u201cZ\u201d could lead some to think that it works with the Russian Ministry of Defense. The symbol \u201cZ\u201d has become a symbol of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. <\/p>\n<p>Sean Townsend, a spokesperson for the loose collective of hackers and various hacking groups in Ukraine known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/cyber.org.ua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ukrainian Cyber Alliance<\/a>, tweeted screenshot of text from one of the files dumped by the hackers shows
