(Photo by Kevin Dietsch\/Getty Images) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"single-article__content\">\n<div class=\"single-article__content-inner has-drop-cap\"> <html readability=\"19.79347826087\"><body readability=\"41.71098265896\"><\/p>\n<p>A new public awareness campaign from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency attempts to do the seemingly impossible: get Americans to change their habits and stay safer online. <\/p>\n<p>A 60-second PSA rolled out on Tuesday aims to get the message out that Americans need to adopt basic cybersecurity habits and will begin airing around the country tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>The first-of-its kind PSA is part of what <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/tag\/cybersecurity-and-infrastructure-security-agency-cisa\/\">CISA<\/a> is calling its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/resources-tools\/programs\/cisa-cybersecurity-awareness-program\">Cybersecurity Awareness Program<\/a>, a new umbrella program that will house the agency\u2019s public cybersecurity campaigns. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s critical that everyone of us take responsibility for keeping ourselves safe online,\u201d CISA Director Jen Easterly said at the launch of the program. \u201cThat\u2019s why I am so excited about this public awareness campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed wp-embed-aspect-16-9\">\n<p><iframe title=\"Secure Our World: Simple Steps to Protect Your Family\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4E6a-8HuccA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen>[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Amid a rash of high-profile cyberattacks, many of which have been enabled by run-of-the-mill <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/tag\/phishing\/\">phishing campaigns<\/a>, Biden administration officials have <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/white-house-cybersecurity-strategy\/\">sought to make structural reforms<\/a> to U.S. cybersecurity policy, but broadly influencing public attitudes and behavior represents a major undertaking, one that is unlikely to deliver major dividends in the short term. <\/p>\n<p>Easterly said that the public awareness campaign will focus on encouraging basic cyber hygiene: creating strong passwords, using a password manager, enabling multi-factor authentication, recognizing and reporting phishing, and updating software.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe aim to equip digital citizens with the basic tools that are needed to keep ourselves safe and secure online,\u201d Easterly said.<\/p>\n<p>The commercial will also point to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/secure-our-world\">a new website<\/a> that is aimed at helping the average individual learn basic cyber hygiene. CISA also released a number of tip sheets and infographics aimed at helping family, businesses, and vendors. The program was launched in coordination with the National Cyber Security Alliance, a non-profit that promotes cybersecurity awareness.<\/p>\n<p><\/body> <\/p>\n<footer
