The faulty CrowdStrike update has caused affected PCs and servers to enter a recovery boot loop, preventing them from starting properly. Early Friday, companies in Australia first reported the issue, which quickly spread globally to the U.K., India, Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/George_Kurtz\/status\/1814235001745027317\">posted a message to X<\/a> Friday morning that a fix was being deployed and the incident was not the result of a cyberattack. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed wp-embed-aspect-16-9\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\" readability=\"7.2009202453988\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.680981595092\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. It has a lengthy statement on its Azure page on how <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.status.microsoft\/en-us\/status\">organizations can remedy the issue<\/a>. The company also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MSFT365Status\/status\/1814250844319060219\">posted on X<\/a> that the issue impacted its Windows 365 Cloud PCs, which are virtual desktops hosted in the Microsoft Cloud. <\/p>\n<p>On another Microsoft status page, the company says impacted services may include but are not limited to the following:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>PowerBI:<\/strong> Users may notice that their service is in read-only mode while we address impact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Fabric:<\/strong> Users may notice that their service is in read-only mode while we address impact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft Teams:<\/strong> Users may be unable to leverage Microsoft Teams functions including presence, group chats, and user registration.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft 365 admin center:<\/strong> Admins may be intermittently unable to access the Microsoft 365 admin center and any action may be delayed if accessible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The following services have recovered from the outage, according to the company: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Microsoft Defender<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Defender for Endpoint<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Defender Experts<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Intune<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft OneNote<\/li>\n<li>OneDrive for Business<\/li>\n<li>SharePoint Online<\/li>\n<li>Windows 365<\/li>\n<li>Viva Engage<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Purview<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency told CyberScoop its \u201cworking closely with CrowdStrike and our federal, state, local and critical infrastructure partners to fully assess and address these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Businesses around the world had their operations come to a standstill due to the outage. <\/p>\n<p>The airline industry was particularly hit hard. Top U.S. airlines \u2014 United, Delta, and American Airlines \u2014 issued a \u201cglobal ground stop\u201d on all flights.
