(Photo by Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"single-article__content\">\n<div class=\"single-article__content-inner has-drop-cap\"> <html readability=\"19.37073540561\"><body readability=\"39.346798452944\"><\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday that the White House says promotes developing secure software, adopting the latest encryption protocols, securing internet routing and rolling back parts of two executive orders from the Biden and Obama administrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCybersecurity is too important to be reduced to a mere political football,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/06\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-reprioritizes-cybersecurity-efforts-to-protect-america\/\">a fact sheet<\/a> on the executive order reads, criticizing President Joe Biden for attempting \u201cto sneak problematic and distracting issues into cybersecurity policy\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/biden-administration-cybersecurity-executive-order-2025\/\">an executive order<\/a> just before he left office.<\/p>\n<p>The White House didn\u2019t release the text of the document but the fact sheet took on some of Trump\u2019s favorite political topics, saying that it prevents misuse of sanctions \u201cagainst domestic political opponents and clarifying that sanctions do not apply to election-related activities,\u201d while also saying that \u201cit refocuses artificial intelligence (AI) cybersecurity efforts towards identifying and managing vulnerabilities, rather than censorship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear from the fact sheet which domestic political opponents the White House alleges sanctions have been used against; congressional Republicans released <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/report-federal-governments-attempt-control-artificial-intelligence-suppress\">a report<\/a> claiming the Biden administration used AI to promote censorship, which the executive order might be referencing. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump has made it clear that this Administration will do what it takes to make America cyber secure \u2014 including focusing relentlessly on technical and organizational professionalism to improve the security and resilience of the nation\u2019s information systems and networks,\u201d the fact sheet states.
