Ron Wyden, D-Ore., has vowed to block until the agency publicly releases a report on telecommunications network vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>CISA said Tuesday that it would, in fact, release that report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCISA intends to release the U.S. Telecommunications Insecurity Report (2022) that was developed but never released under the Biden administration in 2022, with proper clearance,\u201d Marci McCarthy, director of public affairs at the agency, said in an emailed statement. \u201cCISA has worked with telecommunications providers before, during, and after Salt Typhoon \u2014 sharing timely threat intelligence, providing technical support and continues to have close collaboration with our federal partners to safeguard America\u2019s communications infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The agency didn\u2019t say when it would release the report, or what \u201cproper clearance\u201d entailed.<\/p>\n<p>CISA\u2019s statement came shortly after Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/senate-bill\/2480\/text?s=1&r=2\">passage of legislation<\/a> \u2014 without objections from any senator \u2014 that would require the release of the report within 30 days of enactment. The House would still have to pass the bill to send it to President Donald Trump for a signature.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyden.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/senate-passes-wyden-bill-to-release-unclassified-report-on-phone-network-security-threats\">a floor speech<\/a> Monday, Wyden said \u201cCongress and the American people deserve to read this report. It includes frankly shocking details about national security threats to our country\u2019s phone system that require immediate action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCISA\u2019s multi-year cover-up of the phone companies\u2019 negligent cybersecurity enabled foreign hackers to perpetrate one of the most serious cases of espionage \u2014 ever \u2014 against our country,\u201d he continued. \u201cHad this report been made public when it was first written in 2022, Congress would have had ample time to require mandatory cybersecurity standards for phone companies, in time to prevent the Salt Typhoon hacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Wyden said Tuesday that no one from the office has heard from CISA on its plans for the report \u201cthat I know of.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/salt-typhoon-us-government-response\/\">government\u2019s response<\/a> to Salt Typhoon, and the industry\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/salt-typhoon-chinese-hackers-us-telecom-breach\/\">handling of its vulnerabilities<\/a>, have drawn some outside criticism.
