RICHARDS\/AFP via Getty Images) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"single-article__content\">\n<div class=\"single-article__content-inner has-drop-cap\"> <html readability=\"31.16852367688\"><body readability=\"67.017371353655\"><\/p>\n<p>A top official at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on Thursday rejected concerns that personnel and program cuts at CISA have hindered its work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/cisa-nicholas-andersen-executive-assistant-director-of-cybersecurity\/\">Nick Andersen<\/a>, who just began serving as executive assistant director of cybersecurity at CISA this month, said he\u2019s seen the agency function at a high level from both the outside and inside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been an awful lot of reporting recently about CISA and the potential for degraded operational capabilities, and I\u2019m telling you, nothing can be further from the truth,\u201d he said at the Billington Cybersecurity Summit. \u201cIt is just a fantastic opportunity to see the high-level output and throughput that this team has.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is not a single instance where I can think of that somebody reaches out \u2014 whether it\u2019s in our remit or not, we are connecting them with the right level of resources, and we are helping them to make themselves right, whether it\u2019s incidents that we see affecting a state\/local partner, small- or medium-sized businesses or the largest critical infrastructure owner\/operators,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Trump administration has cut or plans to cut <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/trump-budget-proposal-would-slash-more-than-1000-cisa-jobs\/\">more than 1,000 personnel<\/a> at the agency, a third of its total full-time employees, and has sought nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/trump-administration-proposed-cisa-budget-cuts\/\">half a billion dollars<\/a> in funding reductions.<\/p>\n<p>CISA\u2019s shuttering of an array of programs has drawn <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/cyber-information-sharing-critical-infrastructure-panel-cisa-law-renewal\/\">widespread criticism<\/a> from many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cybersecuritydive.com\/news\/critical-infrastructure-cybersecurity-federal-support-risk\/753686\/\">in industry<\/a> as well as from <a href=\"https:\/\/statescoop.com\/cisa-state-local-cyber-ms-isac-2025\/\">state and local governments<\/a> who have partnered with the agency, not to mention concerns from <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/cisa-workforce-cuts-house-leaders-legislation\/\">Capitol Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But Andersen said CISA has full support from President Donald Trump, who clashed with agency leadership in his first term, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have exceedingly strong relationships with\u201d other government agencies and the private sector, Andersen touted. \u201cThe level of commitment within this team is second to none, and we\u2019re just going to continue to hone and focus [on] that operational mission of what CISA should be delivering on.
