(Mattie Neretin\/CNP\/Sipa USA) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"single-article__content\">\n<div class=\"single-article__content-inner has-drop-cap\"> <html readability=\"18.605769230769\"><body readability=\"41.655525606469\"><\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump re-nominated Sean Plankey to lead the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on Tuesday, after Plankey\u2019s bid for the position ended last year stuck in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear whether or how Plankey\u2019s resubmitted nomination will overcome the hurdles that left many observers convinced his chance of becoming CISA director <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/sean-plankey-cisa-nomination-stalled-senate-holds\/\">had likely ended<\/a>, but it does definitively signal that the Trump administration still wants Plankey to have the job.<\/p>\n<p>Plankey\u2019s nomination was included in a batch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/01\/nominations-sent-to-the-senate-078c\/\">sent to the Senate<\/a> announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>CISA spent all of 2025 under Trump without a permanent director. Trump nominated Plankey, who held a couple cybersecurity roles in the first Trump administration, to lead CISA <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/sean-plankey-cisa-nomination\/\">in March<\/a>. He got a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/plankey-vows-to-boot-china-from-u-s-supply-chain-advocate-for-cisa-budget\/\">in July<\/a>, then won approval from that panel that same month.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>But Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., had placed a hold on Plankey\u2019s nomination over a Coast Guard contract that the Homeland Security Department had canceled in part. While he awaited confirmation, Plankey had been serving as a senior adviser to the secretary for the Coast Guard.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Scott did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina\u2019s GOP Senate delegation also had placed holds on DHS nominees related to disaster aid to their state. Sen.
