(Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"single-article__content\">\n<div class=\"single-article__content-inner has-drop-cap\"> <html readability=\"19.343164607413\"><body readability=\"41.794594594595\"><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. government wants the rest of the world to adopt its artificial intelligence cybersecurity standards, a top official with the Office of the National Cyber Director said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>As part of an effort to advance American AI, the administration will be \u201cundertaking diplomacy efforts to promote American AI cybersecurity standards and norms, establishing industry best practices for secure AI deployment and harnessing the full potential of AI tools,\u201d said Alexandra Seymour, principal deputy assistant national cyber director for policy.<\/p>\n<p>Seymour\u2019s comments at the 2026 Identity, Authentication, and the Road Ahead Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. partially reflect the Trump administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/trump-ai-action-plan-critical-infrastructure-cyber-defense\/\">AI Action Plan<\/a> released last summer, which said the departments of Commerce and State would \u201cvigorously advocate for international AI governance approaches that promote innovation, reflect American values, and counter authoritarian influence,\u201d but doesn\u2019t explicitly mention international promotion of cybersecurity standards.<\/p>\n<p>Some of that effort has already materialized, with internationally oriented guides released in both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/resources-tools\/resources\/ai-data-security-best-practices-securing-data-used-train-operate-ai-systems\">May<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/ai-cybersecurity-guidance-critical-infrastructure-op-ed\/\">December<\/a>. The United States also isn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rescana.com\/post\/etsi-en-304-223-the-new-global-standard-for-ai-cybersecurity-and-supply-chain-risk-management\">the only one<\/a> looking to influence <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/topics\/competitiveness\/ai-continent_en\">international standards<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/un-seeks-consensus-on-safe-secure-trustworthy-ai\/\">AI security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--inline_1 \">\n<div class=\"ad__inner\"> <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Advertisement<\/span> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>AI also figures into the yet-to-be-released <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberscoop.com\/trump-national-cybersecurity-strategy-2025-release\/\">national cybersecurity strategy<\/a> that Seymour\u2019s office has been developing. And it dovetails with a pillar of the strategy focused on defending federal networks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile AI is already helping industries enhance security and address the challenge of escalating cyberattacks, this administration will promote the rapid implementation of AI-enabled cyber defensive tools to detect, divert and deceive threat actors who continue targeting our vital systems and sectors on our federal systems,\u201d Seymour said. \u201cWe must get our house in order.
